Essentials Program

Year One

The focus during the first year is gaining a general understanding of the various different Islamic sciences, with a goal to understanding how each effects our lives and the place they have relative to one another. Topics will include the Manners of Studying, Benefits of Ilm, Place of the Scholars in Islam, Introduction to Tasawwuf (Islamic Spirituality) and other similar topics. Concurrently, students will study Aqidah (Islamic Creed) and will begin a detailed, practical study of Hanafi Fiqh, starting with Taharah (purification) and Salah (prayer). Finally, a number of weeks are spent on understanding and learning about the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with a focus on learning the different sunnah duas which we should recite throughout the day.

Year Two

Year two will continue the study of fiqh, moving onto Sawn (fasting), Zakat and select other topics, including the fiqh of marriage, divorce and business transactions. Students will get an introduction to usul al-fiqh, and spend a good portion of the year on an Introduction to the Sciences of the Quran and Hadith. Finally students will start a study of the Seerah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which will focus on the good character and manners of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as well as a mini-course on the Diseases of the Heart.

Year Three

Year three will focuses almost exclusively on an in-depth study of select portions from the Quran, as well as a a number of Hadith narrations.

Course Requirements?

In addition to the time commitment of 4 hours per week, there are some other requirements to bear in mind. All students must:

- Prepare/memorize the lesson for that week and look ahead at the upcoming lesson.

- Have a quiet area where they can attend the class sessions.
